Wayne Rooney has pleaded with Sir Alex Ferguson to play him against Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday night. [LNB]Rooney told his manager that he wanted his exile from the Manchester United first team to last only one game as Ferguson broke the news to him on Friday night that he would not be included in the squad for the trip to Everton the next day. [LNB]It is understood that Rooney was surprised and disappointed to be told at Manchester's Lowry Hotel on Friday that he would not to be included. [LNB]However, during the same conversation, Rooney told his manager that he was in no need of a break from first-team action as he deals with escalating problems in his private life and stressed that he wanted to be straight back in the team from the start of Tuesday night's game. [LNB]Ferguson said in a pre-match TV interview on Saturday that he had omitted Rooney at Goodison Park to protect him from abuse from Everton fans. The manager there knows what he is doing, so perhaps he was just making sure everybody realises that if you play for Manchester United you have to conduct yourself in a manner, and our club doesn't really care who you are.' [LNB]However, it is understood that Ferguson made the call for purely football reasons.
