Everton have rewarded young goalkeeper Iain Turner with a contract extension running until the summer of 2011.

The 23-year-old former Scotland Under-21s custodian joined the Toffees in the summer of 2003 and has subsequently gained first-team experience during loan stays with Chester City, Doncaster Rovers, Wycombe Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday.

Turner has also made six senior appearances for Everton, while acting as a back-up to first Nigel Martyn and then Tim Howard.

He told the club's official website: "Everton is a very big club, they have offered me this contract and it is my ambition to become the number one here.

"Tim (Howard) has been phenomenal this year and he deserves the number one spot, but I intend to be fighting for it.

"I have signed a two-year extension to the two years I had left on my contract and I would like to think that in four years' time I will be playing week in, week out."
