Toffees wait on Cahill

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has been forced to have an X-ray after sustaining a foot injury in Tuesday's pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen. The Australia international fell awkwardly on the same foot that he broke earlier this year at Sheffield United and was immediately substituted. A brief statement on the club's official website read: "Tim Cahill experienced some discomfort in his foot following the fall and was taken off as a precaution. "He underwent X-rays on Wednesday morning and will see the consultant in the evening to assess the results." Assistant manager Alan Irvine added: "Obviously the history of the injury means that we've got to check it out thoroughly. "Hopefully everything will be fine but, until we know the full extent, we've just got to make sure that he's okay." Meanwhile, reports that Wigan Athletic defender Leighton Baines is set to sign for Everton intensified when he attended Tuesday's game against the Bundesliga outfit. He was spotted next to his friend, James Vaughan, in the directors' box watching the 2-2 draw.
