Toffees to keep McFadden

Everton have ended speculation surrounding James McFadden's future by insisting the Scotland striker will not be leaving Goodison Park in January.

The 24-year-old had been linked with a move to Birmingham City when the transfer window reopens where he would be reunited with former international manager Alex McLeish.

Scottish champions Celtic have also been mentioned as possible suitors.

But Toffees chief executive Keith Wyness is adamant the former Motherwell starlet will not be leaving the club.

"I haven't spoken to the manager but no approach from Celtic has come through me or the club," he told the Daily Express.

"James McFadden is under contract to Everton and we've made it clear we don't want to sell him.

"He's a major player in our squad and will continue to play a vital role for the team. If any club made an approach in January they'd be wasting their time."
