Toffees suffer Osman blow
18 Dec 2007 - 12:08:29
Everton midfielder Leon Osman has been ruled out until the new year by a broken toe sustained in last week's Carling Cup quarter-final victory over West Ham United.
The 26-year-old faced the Hammers in a Premier League clash at the weekend, but subsequent X-rays have revealed a serious break.
Toffees boss David Moyes told the club's official website: "It's an absolutely terrible blow.
"He broke his toe in the first five minutes of the Cup game, but he battled on and it shows you how tough he is.
"He was in a bad way but still wanted to play. He had a scan and it showed a big crack and we think he's going to be out for between four to six weeks.
"Leon's form had been good and he's been playing a big part in everything that we've achieved recently."
Osman rose through the Goodison Park youth team ranks to become a first-team regular and has scored 20 goals in 144 appearances for the Merseysiders to date.
