Everton are reportedly keen to re-sign former loan midfielder Manuel Fernandes from Valencia.
The Portugal international spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park from Benfica and was expected to sign a permanent contract in the summer.
However, he opted to sign for Valencia at the 11th hour in a move which surprised Toffees boss David Moyes.
But having found first-team opportunities limited at the crisis-ridden Spanish club during the first half of the season, Fernandes has been linked with a return to Merseyside.
Meanwhile, Moyes has denied reports linking striker James Vaughan with a loan move during the transfer window.
The 19-year-old has struggled to break back into the first team after dislocating his shoulder earlier in the season.
"There is not even a chance of him leaving on loan, not in the slightest," Moyes told the club's official website.
"We rate him so highly, nobody has bothered asking and, even if they did, they would get the same kind of answer.
"He has probably had to stand back a bit and he will have seen what Yak (Yakubu) and AJ (Johnson) are doing and realise the consistency that is required and the goalscoring that is required too. Hopefully he will be learning from them."
