Toffees hope to land Banega
19 Aug 2009 - 12:03:59
Everton are reported to be closing in on the signing of Argentina international Ever Banega from Valencia.
The Toffees are believed to have agreed a season-long loan deal with the Spanish club for the 21-year-old midfielder.
They are now set to attend a Home Office hearing in London on Friday in an attempt to win a work permit.
Banega has yet to break into the Valencia first team despite an 18million euro arrival from Boca Juniors in 2008.
However, he has been capped twice at full international level by Argentina.
Meanwhile, Toffees midfielder Tim Cahill has described last weekend's 6-1 Premier League drubbing at the hands of Arsenal as one of the low points of his career.
Speaking ahead of Thursday's Europa League qualifying meeting with Czech side Sigma Olomouc, he told the club's official website: "Starting off against Arsenal was very disappointing. I think for myself it was probably one of my lowest points in my Everton career.
"We're looking to put it right on Thursday night with such an important game in Europe, because the only thing that we can do is play football and get a good result.
"I think reflecting on it personally, I just wish the Premier League could start all over again and we could probably put right what we did wrong.
"As players we know we have to do better."
