Everton midfielder Tim Cahill will miss the start of the new Premier League season, although the Toffees have played down his latest foot injury.
The 27-year-old was injured in the pre-season clash with Werder Bremen, with press reports speculating that Australia international Cahill could be facing months rather than weeks on the sidelines, having missed the end of last season with a broken metatarsal.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Reports that Tim Cahill is out for three months are wide of the mark.
"It was reported on Wednesday that Tim would be out for up to 12 weeks after damaging his foot in the friendly draw with Werder Bremen on Tuesday.
"Tim has injured the same area of the foot that kept him out earlier this year, but the club have moved quickly to play down claims of a three-month absence.
"No specific timescale is being put on Cahill's recovery at this time."
Head Goodison Park physio, Mick Rathbone, added: "The reports are premature and wide of the mark.
"He has suffered damage to the same area of the foot, but it is miniscule in comparison to the previous injury."
