    Toffees confirm striker blow

    25 Nov 2008 - 14:56:51

Everton have confirmed that James Vaughan will be out of action until the New Year following surgery on a knee cartilage problem.

The injury-plagued 20-year-old had only just returned to action following ligament damage to his left knee when he suffered a fresh problem during training on Friday.

Vaughan has started just two games for the Toffees this season.

"James Vaughan twisted his right knee last Friday," head physio Mick Rathbone told the club's official website.

"He will be out until the New Year. The only saving grace is that it is not the knee he has had so much trouble with in the past.

"It's a terrible shame for James after all the problems he's had in the past. But, unfortunately, that's football."

Meanwhile, the Toffees are awaiting a full diagnosis of Louis Saha's hamstring trouble which forced the striker off the pitch during Monday's 1-0 defeat to the hands of Wigan Athletic.

"Both of Louis' hamstrings were tight and he'll be assessed over the next few days," added Rathbone.
