Toffees confirm Cahill blow
14 Nov 2006 - 13:11:55
Everton have confirmed that midfielder Tim Cahill faces at least two months out of action due to a knee injury sustained in the 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa at the weekend.
The Australia international was injured just 20 minutes into the Goodison Park clash, following a collision with team-mate Lee Carsley, and scans have confirmed significant damage to his right knee.
Toffees physio Mick Rathbone told the club's official website: "We had the scan yesterday and it confirmed what we saw clinically, which is that he has significant damage to his medial ligament.
"The anterior cruciate ligament seems okay, which was our fear.
"We'd estimate it would be an absolute minimum of six weeks, but probably going on for eight weeks for the medial ligament.
"We think and hope the cartilage is okay. What we'll do is let it settle down for a few days then reassess.
"The surgeon may decide to have a quick look inside the knee to have a look at the cartilage, but we're not really sure about that.
"He's a quick healer and if you look back at his medical history, you can see he has a record of coming back from injury quickly."
