Toffees reject Anichebe talk
Everton have dismissed speculation that striker Victor Anichebe has suffered a serious setback in his recovery from knee ligament damage.
The young Nigerian has been absent since February after sustaining the injury following a tackle from Newcastle's Kevin Nolan.
Toffees boss David Moyes then intimated last week that the youngster had suffered a relapse.
But while Anichebe did experience some discomfort during training last week, Everton head physio Mick Rathbone has moved to deny speculation about anything worse.
He said: "It is not true to say Victor has had any kind of major setback.
"He has been making slower progress than we would have liked but the surgeon is pleased with the repair and these things take time.
"He is a young lad and we must make sure he comes back perfectly fit after such a serious injury."
European clash Meanwhile, Everton are unlikely to make many changes for Thursday's Europa League play-off first leg to Sigma Olomouc despite the 6-1 home thrashing by Arsenal on Saturday.
The Czech outfit travel to Goodison buoyed by an emphatic 8-1 aggregate victory over Aberdeen in the second qualifying round, having recorded a 3-1 aggregate win over Iceland's Fram Reykjavik in the first stage.
But Sigma Olomouc manager Zdenek Psotka is taking nothing for granted, and says he will not read anything into Everton's heavy defeat to the Gunners last time.
Psotka said: "Everton are a typical British club, and last season they had some very good results.
"They have many good players, for example Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini, and they are very good defensively."
He added: "We are coming here to get a (good) result, so we return home with a real idea of what we need to do for our home match.
"Our team is very young and we are looking for new experiences. Everton will provide that for us as they are very strong opponents.
"I want a good result, but the game will be a genuine experience."
