Toffees boss feeling lucky

Everton boss David Moyes admits one glance at West Ham's predicament makes him realise just how lucky a manager he is.[LNB] Moyes feels his Hammers counterpart Gianfranco Zola has faced an unenviable task in his first season in charge at Upton Park.[LNB]After steering the team through a period of financial instability, Zola now finds himself working for new owners he appears to be at odds with.[LNB]The Italian's position has also been the subject of intense scrutiny this week after his side suffered a sixth successive defeat last Saturday.[LNB]That result has left them in serious relegation danger in the Barclays Premier League and Moyes is relieved to be working on much firmer ground at Goodison Park.[LNB]"I have been really fortunate with the people I have had here," said Moyes, whose side host West Ham on Sunday.[LNB]"Sir Philip (Carter) and Bill (Kenwright) have been great and my chairman at Preston was as well.[LNB]"Maybe I have just been lucky but managers do need a lot of support.[LNB]"It is difficult at times and what they want is people to back them and help them and get through the hard times.[LNB]"It is especially hard if you come into it, like Gianfranco has and I did, as a young manager.[LNB]"What you need is people who really support and help you, don't get too low when things are going badly and don't get too high when they are going well.[LNB]"We have seen so many people come into clubs and masquerade as people who know what they're doing in the football world, but they don't.[LNB]"We are fortunate we have got Bill at Everton - but he has admitted it would be nice if we could get a few bob more in our pocket."[LNB]Moyes is pleased Zola has chosen not to walk away from the Hammers.[LNB]He admitted he was considering his future after losing to Stoke last weekend but decided to stay.[LNB]That defeat came after some outspoken criticism of the team from co-owner David Sullivan that some pundits felt undermined Zola.[LNB]Moyes added: "If you look at what Gianfranco has had to put up with - the change of people at the club and even before that when we didn't know who was in charge of it.[LNB]"Especially when you are a new, young manager, still trying to find your feet - to have the situations and the problems he has got has been difficult.[LNB]"I hoped he would see the season through and then decide. I don't know his or West Ham's business but I hope he sees it through.[LNB]"He is a very nice guy trying to do his best. I'm sure if he gets the time I think he can make it work."[LNB]Moyes, however, intends to show no sympathy tomorrow as his team look to maintain their late push for a European place.[LNB]The Toffees have lost just twice in their past 18 Premier League games and have won seven in succession at home.[LNB]Yet after their dreadful, injury-ravaged start to the campaign, they still have work to do to catch the likes of Aston Villa and Liverpool.[LNB]Moyes said: "We are playing really well just now and we will try to keep picking up points.[LNB]"We are going to try to catch some of the teams above us if we can but it is a long haul.[LNB]"We created a lot of chances last week and missed them. We are at the business end now and the people who are there to do it have got to start finishing.[LNB]"But West Ham will be a threat because they are fighting for survival in the Premier League. "I don't think anybody should be kidded - they have got individuals that can win games."[LNB]Everton are again likely to be without Mikel Arteta due to a groin injury while Joseph Yobo and Victor Anichebe are battling to overcome knocks.
