The cap doesn't exactly fit Notts County keeper Kasper Schmeichel

The Notts County revolution is such that the signing of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel alone broke the Football League’s salary cap turnover regulations even before the arrival of Premier League star Sol Campbell. The League’s long-winded salary protocol which was introduced six years ago for League Two clubs, restricts spending on players’ wages and expenses to 60 per cent of a club’s football-related income. Clubs are monitored to ensure they are operating within the threshold. Schmeichel’s arrival at Meadow Lane from Manchester City on wages of about £15,000 a week alerted League officials because the current crop of County players earn an average of £1,000 a week. As a result, Schmeichel’s registration was delayed, causing him to miss a game, until officials were satisfied Middle Eastern consortium owners Munto Finance had provided enough extra funding to keep the wage bill within the rules. And it is understood Munto Finance injected enough money to also cope with the arrival of Campbell on a huge weekly salary of £40,000. Fortunately for Munto Finance, the pay packet of director of football, Sven Goran Eriksson, is not subject to such a salary cap.
