The best Transfer Deadline Day rumours

01 September 2010 08:00
SINCE the transfer window was introduced in 2003, the final day of activity has become increasingly hyped out of proportion.[LNB]Deadline day peaked in the summer of 2008 when newly-rich Manchester City bought Brazilian forward Robinho for a British record transfer fee and Manchester United lured Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham for a similar price, with both deals concluded shortly before midnight after a day of negotiations.[LNB]But recent windows have been a lot quieter - this summer has seen the lowest total spend by Premier League clubs for four years, despite the continuing revolution at Eastlands.[LNB]For Liverpool, Paul Konchesky was the only deadline day arrival, while Emiliano Insua, Damien Plessis, Nabil El Zhar, Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic heading out of Anfield. Everton deals saw Joseph Yobo head to Fenerbahce on loan.[LNB] But in the absence of major deals, fans have entertained themselves by fabricating rumours.[LNB]We have all heard the story of a taxi driver whose mate works at Everton's training ground or the guy whose girlfriend's mum works at Anfield and here are some of our favourite such tales from our live transfer blog yesterday. (Our verdict on each rumour is in italics).[LNB]If you can beat these or have a favourite transfer deadline day rumour, let us know in the comments below.
