Everton have made an approach to Sporting Lisbon with a view to signing goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic.
The 24-year-old Serbia international is wanted by Toffees boss David Moyes to provide competition for regular number one Tim Howard this season.
Stojkovic's agent, Zoran Stojadinovic, claims Everton have made their interest in the keeper official after lodging a loan bid with a view to a permanent transfer with the Portuguese club.
However, the Toffees may have to wait to welcome the keeper into their ranks as Stojkovic is due to captain the Serbia side at next month's Olympic Games in Beijing.
"I can confirm that Everton have made a bid for Stojkovic," said Stojadinovic.
"The offer is a season-long loan, with an option to purchase the player definitively at the end of this period.
"The transfer fee is likely to be between 2.5 and 3million euros."
