Spain snub confuses Arteta

Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta cannot understand why he continues to be overlooked by Spain.

The Toffees star has not played international football since his time in the Under-21 ranks and has spoken of his disappointment at missing out on selection for Wednesday's friendly against England in Seville.

However, the former Real Sociedad and Rangers youngster is refusing to give up hope of one day winning a full Spain cap.

"I have asked myself seven million times why I have never been called into the Spanish team when I was doing very well at
Under-21 level," he told the Everton's official website.

"I do not understand it and it is something I hope to overcome someday. It would have been a great dream to play against England in Seville.

"I still look forward to the call one day and my dream as a footballer is to still get selected for my country."
