Selection dilemma for Moyes
David Moyes is facing a welcome selection headache involving Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini.
There have not been too many occasions down the years where the Everton boss has been faced with such a dilemma.
The Toffees have never worked with the biggest squad in the Premier League, prepared to get the best out of what they have available.
However, times are changing on Merseyside, with Everton now well established as a top-six outfit.
That has seen the club look to bolster their ranks as they attempt to juggle the challenges posed by domestic and European competition.
While having cover in every position is admirable, it does pose the question of how to fit certain players into the same starting XI.
In an ideal world Moyes would welcome the opportunity to pitch the creative talents of Belgian powerhouse Fellaini and Aussie talisman Cahill alongside each other, but the Scot has warned the pair that they cannot expect to play every week.
"There will be times when I use Tim in some games and Fellaini in others and not both together," Moyes said in the Liverpool Echo.
"But, as well as that, I know I can play them together if I have
to.
"Once I get a squad, that will happen. At the moment, I don't have a squad to make those decisions.
"I thought Felli had his best game (of the season) against Olomouc (in the Europa League). His second season will be tough.
I thought the first six months of this season would be the hardest for him.
"I thought this might be the hardest period and he might find it tough to reach those heights again. He has been a bit down but the good thing is that he knows about it, he is aware of it.
"That gives me great hope. When players don't recognise that they are not playing as well as they should be, that's when you have problems but Felli recognises he can play much better."
