Seasiders denied by plucky Toffees
Blackpool's Marlon Harewood was denied a late winner as the Premier League newcomers fought out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Everton.The substitute put the ball in the net in the closing minutes at Bloomfield Road but was frustrated by a controversial offside flag.The Seasiders went in front with 10 minutes gone after Charlie Adam was crudely brought down by Mikel Arteta 25 yards out. Neal Eardley stepped up and bent a superb free-kick around the wall and past Tim Howard.Everton equalised just three minutes later. Sylvain Distin led the charge, playing a one-two with Steven Pienaar and playing in Ayegbeni Yakubu. The Nigerian turned and picked out Tim Cahill on the six-yard box with a delicate cross and Matt Gilks could not keep out his header.Seamus Coleman looked certain to score after weaving his way through the home defence but his shot curved just wide as the visitors pressed but Blackpool reclaimed the lead after a goalmouth scramble three minutes into the second half.Everton appealed for handball against DJ Campbell as the striker shielded the ball from Distin but the ball was worked out for Vaughan to shoot from the edge of the area, the midfielder slamming his first effort into the body of a defender but netting at the second attempt. But again, Blackpool could not hold their lead. Coleman pounced on a poor header by Stephen Crainey barely two minutes later and raced into the area to unleash a fierce shot which squeezed under Gilks.
