Rodwell: I'll play anywhere

27 July 2009 11:51
Everton youngster Jack Rodwell has admitted that he does not know what position he will be playing this season. Rodwell made his debut during the 2007/08 season as an 80th minute sub during the Uefa Cup game at AZ Alkmaar in central midfield and has gone on to make 28 appearances, the majority of them in midfield. However, it is thought within the game that he has the potential to become a top central defender. After spending the summer in Sweden at the European U21 Championships with England, Rodwell has only just returned to pre-season with his club, making his first appearance against River Plate on Saturday in midfield. Speaking to Everton TV, he said: "I'm not sure where I'll be playing this season. I started here (in midfield) last year and played most of the season in midfield so maybe it will be the same again - I'm not really sure." The teenager, who got through the full ninety minutes against River Plate, is hoping for more action on Wednesday when Everton take on the MLS All-Stars. He said: "I've had a few days' training now and it's been hard getting back into it. It is about getting back to good levels of fitness and I managed to play the full ninety minutes. "It's good to get your first game in and everyone put a good shift in, I'll feel the benefits of that over the next few days. "The MLS game will be a big game, there are some good players playing in it and all the lads are excited for it."
