Quiet summer concerns Moyes

Everton boss David Moyes has revealed his frustration at the lack of transfer activity at Goodison Park this summer. The Toffees chief is yet to splash out during the transfer window, with loan stars and promising youngsters representing the only new arrivals on Merseyside. Moyes has instead spent more time fending off advances for the likes of Joleon Lescott and Louis Saha than he has indentifying targets of his own. The Scot accepts that fresh faces are vital if Everton are to build on a promising 2008/09 campaign, which saw them finish fifth in the Premier League and reach the FA Cup final. For now, though, he is being forced to bide his time and has admitted that his failure to build on what he has already got is starting to weigh on his mind as the start of the new campaign draws ever closer. Moyes said: "We are not ready as far as the squad goes, we want more players in. "We let a few go in the summer - Andy van der Meyde, Lars Jacobson, Nuno Valente - and we have not replaced any of those players yet. "If we want a run in Europe we need more players quickly. The search goes on, it has never stopped all summer and I am feeling a bit demented with it all now! "Apart from a couple of clubs, the transfer activity around the country has been limited. But for us, to have finished fifth and reached a cup final, to improve on that costs a lot of money. "But we don't have that money. So trying to find players who are cheap, don't want much wages and will come here to improve us, well, it is not easy." One player who could be on his way in is Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos. Everton have lodged a bid for the Swiss centre-half and Moyes is hoping there will be progress in regards to that approach in the next few days. "We have a good team but what we do not have is back-up, and that is what we are trying to get," he added. "The bid for Senderos has been with [Arsenal] for a while now, and maybe it is getting closer."
