Poor start frustrates Moyes
24 Jan 2010 - 11:22:13
Everton boss David Moyes admitted a poor first-half performance was to blame for their FA Cup exit at the hands of Birmingham City.
Goals from Christian Benitez and Barry Ferguson fired the Blues into a 2-0 half-time lead in their fourth-round encounter at Goodison Park.
Toffees substitute Leon Osman reduced the arrears ten minutes after the restart but City held on to book their place in the next round.
"We left ourselves a lot to do after being two down at the break," lamented Moyes. "We were so poor, it was always going to be an uphill task.
"It needed a very good performance after that to turn it around. We did well, but it was not good enough.
"We must give Birmingham credit. They played well, scored two goals and deserved to go through.
"They are above us in the Premier League and on a very good run. We went missing from the start and never really deserved any luck after that."
