Player Details

Mikel Arteta is a versatile midfielder who was arguably one of the most gifted players in the Everton squad in 2010-11. Mikel arrived at Goodison in a loan deal in January 2005, signing permanently the following summer after his vital contribution towards Everton?s fourth place finish at the end of the season. An extremely talented player, Mikel can play in any position across the centre of the park. He started out as a winger, but has moved to central midfield where his sublime passing skills have set up many attacks, whilst his ability from dead-ball situations is second-to-none. Mikel had the misfortune to suffer a serious knee injury against Newcastle in February 2009 and was out of action for almost a year before returning for the FA Cup tie with Birmingham City at the end of January 2010. He was often used in a deeper role in 2010-11, although to less effect, but remained a first-team regular. Mikel has represented Spain at U17, U18 and U21 levels, but has yet to win a senior cap for his country. In August 2011 he signed for Arsenal.
