Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar fears that he will not play again this month after picking up an ankle problem while on Africa Cup of Nations duty with South Africa.
The 25-year-old was forced to pull out of his side's final group match against Senegal with the injury and will return to Goodison Park to have a scan on the problem.
Pienaar also countered claims that he was using the injury as an excuse for South Africa's poor displays at the tournament.
He said: "This is just nonsense. I am injured and will be out for three weeks.
"I am not that stupid and I don't care what anybody says.
"I was having a good tournament and would have loved to play."
