    Penalty award upsets Moyes

    13 Apr 2009 - 10:32:27

Everton manager David Moyes claimed a harsh penalty decision denied his side victory in Sunday's 3-3 thriller against Aston Villa.

The Toffees were leading 3-1 early in the second half at Villa Park courtesy of goals from Marouane Fellaini, Tim Cahill and Steven Pienaar.

But Villa staged a second-half fightback and after James Milner had reduced the deficit, referee Howard Webb awarded the home side a penalty after Joleon Lescott was adjudged to have caught Stiliyan Petrov with a high foot in the box.

Gareth Barry converted the spot-kick to earn his side a share of the spoils and afterwards Moyes questioned the penalty decision.

"I think it was a harsh decision. When you raise your foot you are always liable, but if there is nobody there, there is no penalty," he told evertonTV.

"He (Lescott) doesn't know the lad is there. We should have dealt with it before that though."

On the overall performance, he added: "I thought we passed it well and we should take a lot of confidence from it.

"It was a good game and a good game for the punters, but I am disappointed we didn't take three points after being a couple of goals up.

"We are really pleased with the performance of the players."
