Owen sensation! Everton want to take the Michael out of Newcastle

Michael Owen has been linked with a sensational move to Everton - the club he supported as a boy. The England striker is out of contract at Newcastle in the summer and would be attractive to an Everton side that don't have much cash to splash. A move back to Merseyside would be controversial, given his years of success at Liverpool, but he may not be able to resist the draw of the blue half of the city should an offer be forthcoming. Everton will not match Owen's current deal, worth more than £100,000 a week, according to the Daily Express. But they would be able to tempt him with a handsome signing-on fee. Everton tried to sign Owen when Newcastle took him from Real Madrid four years ago but could not compete with Newcastle's £17million bid. He would now be available on a free, but Everton could face competition - with Manchester City also linked with a move. In January, Owen told relegation strugglers Newcastle he would not talk about a new contract until the end of the season. 'After speculation about my future at Newcastle, I have decided to make it clear I am committed to the club until at least the end of this season and have informed them I do not want to make a decision about my future until that time,' he said. 'I hope this will be seen as a positive step and not as being disloyal in any way. I am committed, along with the rest of the players, to ensure the club end the season on a high.'
