NIGEL MARTYN: Fired-up Everton boss David Moyes was so desperate to make Manchester City pay

IT was clear David Moyes had his players fired up to take on Manchester City on Saturday. The way City conducted their pursuit of Joleon Lescott back in the summer still rankles at Goodison.[LNB]It certainly gave the game extra spice and there's no doubt what happened gave our players some added motivation.[LNB]I know the manager slammed City in his programme notes, but the players had a go back at the big-spenders in the best possible way by taking the three points with our best performance of the season.[LNB]The players went out there and delivered for the manager.[LNB]What was crucial was that we didn't let City play. We imposed ourselves on them from the start and got in their faces.[LNB]The atmosphere was great and it reminded me of matches against Liverpool and Manchester United. The supporters were right up for it and when it's like that there isn't a better set of fans around to have behind you.[LNB]With people coming back from injury there's a different feel around the club at the moment and that showed on Saturday.[LNB]We gained a lot of confidence from what happened at Arsenal the week before. A late goal may have denied us a deserved victory but the performance was excellent and everyone took heart from that.[LNB]Confidence is high and having got into the top half of the table we need to push on.[LNB]Qualifying for Europe is back on the agenda, but it's only a dot on the horizon at the moment. We've left ourselves a lot to do but all we can do is focus on putting a run together.[LNB]A lot of teams above us are dropping points and we need to hope they continue to falter.[LNB]It's a tough ask but if we keep winning there will be a few clubs looking over their shoulder.[LNB]If teams do slip up we have to be ready to take advantage and if we don't make it we have to ensure it's not down to a lack of trying.[LNB]The first target is Fulham, who are a point above us, so let's concentrate on picking off the teams above us one at a time.
