Neville issues rallying call
15 Apr 2008 - 13:27:25
Everton captain Phil Neville has challenged his team-mates to put their recent disappointment behind them and finish the season as strongly as possible.
The Toffees appear to be out of the race to secure fourth spot and Champions League football after a run of just one win in their last five games.
But ahead of Thursday's meeting with Chelsea at Goodison Park, Neville has issued a rallying cry by insisting fourth place could still be achievable.
"We're at the stage of the season where we seem to have hit a brick wall," he told evertonTV.
"But we have got to recover and find something from within to kick on and get that fourth place. That's still what we are aiming for and the position that we want.
"We can't worry about results at Anfield or Villa Park or Portsmouth.
"We have to make sure we win our own games and there's no better way to bounce back from the disappointment of the weekend by beating a quality team like Chelsea.
"There's no motivation needed for Thursday, fourth place is still up for grabs and we have to make sure that we get the just rewards for our season.
"People are talking about what a fantastic season we have had, but it will count for nothing if we don't qualify for Europe.
"Even finishing in fifth place for me would be a good achievement but not as great as what we could have done."
