Neville: England still the best
09 Jul 2009 - 08:15:45
Everton defender Phil Neville has dismissed a claim from former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo that the Spanish league is now better than the Premier League.
Ronaldo has swapped England for Spain after joining Real Madrid in a world record £80million transfer from Manchester United this summer.
The Portugal star now claims that La Liga - where he and fellow new Madrid signing Kaka will be playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o of Barcelona - is now better than the Premier League.
However, former United midfielder Neville is still convinced that England is still the most attractive place to play club football.
"From an English football point of view I was gutted to see Cristiano Ronaldo leave," he told the club's official website.
"I think he brought a lot to the Premier League, everyone enjoyed playing against him, he is the best player in the world and he entertains people.
"We want the best players to be playing in the Premier League because we feel we play the best football and we have the best product over here.
"Real Madrid are spending money but I still believe the Premier League is the best, the most exciting, the most honest, the most entertaining and we can be proud of that."
