Neville lauds Howard
Everton captain Phil Neville hailed Tim Howard as the most consistent goalkeeper in the Barclays Premier League after the American's man-of-the-match performance sent Major League football's All-Stars to their first defeat to foreign opposition.
United States international Howard, whose shootout saves against Manchester United helped Everton win their FA Cup semi-final last season, made three shootout saves to deny the All-Stars a sixth successive victory over foreign sides, his final save of the night denying former Arsenal star and home captain Freddie Ljungberg in sudden death.
"He won us the semi-final last year by saving penalties and he's done it again," Neville said of Howard.
"Consistently he's been one of the best keepers in the Premiership over the last two or three seasons.
"We're just so lucky to have him in our nets and he's a good guy too."
Of the challenge posed by an MLS side led by Ljungberg and starring keeper Kasey Keller and Mexican playmaker Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Neville added: "The standard's obviously getting better and better.
"It was a tough game tonight, either side could have won, penalty shootouts are a little bit of a lottery but we're just glad to be the first Premiership side to beat the MLS in an All-Star Game.
"We can be proud of our achievements."
