Neville: Gap closing on Reds

Phil Neville believes that the gap between Everton and Liverpool is closer than ever, following the Toffees' 2-0 victory over the weekend.[LNB] Everton grabbed goals either side of the half-time interval through Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta to seal the three points.[LNB]Neville hailed the performance of his team-mates, and expressed his satisfaction after defeating his side's Merseyside rivals.[LNB]"I've been involved in two victories in probably the last ten or so derby games, so I've had to suffer," he said.[LNB]"It's not nice being the losing captain of a derby side. But you celebrate your victories, you enjoy them and that's what we did today.[LNB]"It was about the effort and the quality of the football came with it. The manager said in the dressing room after the game that he wants us to produce that from now until the end of the season."[LNB]"I came to the club five years ago and the gap between the clubs was big. In terms of performances, we were fighting to compete.[LNB]"The quality gap was big, and the manager wanted to close that more and more. I think it has been doing. Last season we felt we were closing on them, and after yesterday we feel it is closing again.[LNB]"Even though we're rivals and Liverpool are the team our fans love to hate, they're still a team we want to get above. We can't disrespect Liverpool FC by saying they're gone or they're finished, because we could have still been in the bottom three without this result."
