Naysmith's injury woe

Everton defender Gary Naysmith looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Newcastle United.

The 27-year-old Scotland international could have a medial knee ligament injury and will have a scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of the problem.

Head physio Mick Rathbone told Everton's official website: "It was quite a nasty injury for Gary.

"When you run on to see a player they'll tell you what they think they've done and he was saying it was just a knock.

"However, when we reviewed him at half-time and we looked at a video of the incident, it was clear he'd sustained quite a bad medial ligament strain so it's a pretty bad injury.

"He's going to be out for weeks. We'll be taking him for a scan on Tuesday but I'm sure it will confirm what we fear because there's no way it's not an insignificant injury."
