Sports Personality of the Year[LNB]THERE is still time to nominate supporters for the Echo's coveted Fan of the Year awards.[LNB]Nominations have been flooding in over the past week with tales of die-hard Kopites, Evertonians and Tranmere Rovers followers who go to extraordinary lengths to follow their team.[LNB]And we need your help to ensure the most dedicated football fans on Merseyside are honoured for their loyalty.[LNB]At the end of next week our panel of judges will select a winner for each of our big three clubs. The winners and their guest will get to rub shoulders with stars past and present at the ECHO's Merseyside Sports Personality of the Year Awards at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Monday, March 1.[LNB]It promises to be a night to remember with each Fan of the Year receiving their award, which is sponsored by Chester-based credit card provider MBNA, from one of their club's legendary players.[LNB]Our last Liverpool Fan of the Year was Les McKee, who grew up in Northern Ireland but spent all his spare cash and holiday to come over to watch the Reds.[LNB]However, that wasn't enough to satisfy his passion for the club and in 2003 he gave up his job, sold his belongings and moved to Liverpool with just £500 and a bag of clothes just so he could become a permanent fixture at Anfield.[LNB]The Everton Fan of the Year was Bernadette Malone who had been a Gwladys Street season ticket holder for over 35 years.[LNB]The school teacher from St Helens was taken to Goodison for the first time by her fanatical Evertonian father Jim when she was just nine.
