David Moyes has demanded an immediate improvement from Everton after they lost a pre-season friendly 4-2 at the hands of Cambridge United.
The Toffees boss was unhappy with the level of performance his players produced as they slipped up at the hands of Blue Square Premier League opposition on Saturday.
The match welcomed the return of Spain midfielder Mikel Arteta from injury, but afterwards Moyes pulled no punches in his assessment.
"We need to do much better," he told the club's official website.
"I think we could have scored ten but to concede four isn't good. I've got to give Cambridge credit for the way they played."
Meanwhile, Moyes revealed he is desperate to bolster some areas of his squad with the new season looming on the horizon.
He added: "We don't have much cover to give one or two boys a breather.
"We're a little bit short in several areas but hopefully we'll turn that round."
