Moyes rues last-gasp equaliser
05 Apr 2010 - 11:10:47
Everton boss David Moyes admitted his side has 'thrown away' the chance to win a vital game after drawing 2-2 with West Ham United on Sunday.
Goals from Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Ayegbeni Yakubu had put the Toffees into a 2-1 lead at Goodison Park.
However, an eighth successive home victory slipped through their fingers after Brazilian striker Ilan struck late on for the visitors.
"We're disappointed to be 2-1 up and then throw it away in the last three or four minutes," explained Moyes.
"The game was tight but we didn't play well enough to merit more. But sometimes when you don't play brilliantly you hope to win it and it looked as if we'd done that.
"You definitely have to give some credit to West Ham, they made it hard, got a lot of people behind the ball and we found it very difficult to get through, especially in the first half when we had the baulk of the possession.
"We tried to do it right and we tried to play but we just never really got to the level we've been at in some other games."
Meanwhile, Moyes was upset that referee Howard Webb waved away penalty appeals when Manuel Da Costa appeared to pull down Louis Saha in the box.
He added: "I had a clear view of it and we thought right away Louis got to the ball in front of the boy and the boy's boot hit him in the midriff."
