Moyes rethinks Toffees goals
17 Aug 2009 - 09:18:19
Everton manager David Moyes has admitted he has been forced to reassess his goals this season following Saturday's 6-1 mauling at the hands of Arsenal.
The Toffees finished fifth in the Premier League last season but looked a shadow of that side when they were put to the sword at Goodison Park on the opening day of the new campaign.
The future of Joleon Lescott has overshadowed their pre-season campaign with Manchester City desperate to sign the England defender.
But Moyes believes the wider squad should be looking to get back to basics following Saturday's horror show.
"I think at the moment they have got to make sure that they achieve enough to do what they are good at - that's to make sure we are in the division," he told the Liverpool Daily Post.
"If they're getting carried away with themselves and thinking they're better than that at the moment then they have got to look after themselves because otherwise we'll be in trouble.
"I said on Friday that the first thing is to make sure we have enough points to avoid relegation and go on from there."
