Moyes realistic over Euro spot

Everton boss David Moyes has admitted his side's hopes of securing European football for next season are now "remote".

Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta kept his nerve to sink Fulham with a last-gasp penalty in a 2-1 victory at Goodison Park on Sunday.

However, wins elsewhere for Liverpool and Aston Villa means the eighth-placed Toffees are still five points adrift of the final Europa League qualifying place with just two games remaining in the season.

"Our chances are now remote, but if you'd said to me in October or November it was remote, I'd have said we'd no chance," said Moyes.

"So I can only pay credit to how well the players have kept going, in particular coming through a difficult February. We've won games and done really well.

"I admit we've found the last couple of home games against West Ham and Fulham more difficult than some others we've had this year, so it's something we need to think about.

"But I'm really pleased with what the players are doing. We might not have reached the standards we've set in recent weeks but we've got the results."
