Moyes Looking To Fire Everton Back Into Europe
Everton boss David Moyes has set his sights on a return to European football for his side after ruling himself out of the running for the Tottenham job.
The Scot has been heavily linked with the role ever since the departure of Harry Redknapp earlier this month.
Speculation in the media has been rife that the Goodison Chief would be tempted by the Spurs position given their financial muscle and two top four finishes in the last three seasons.
Moyes however, currently in Poland working with the BBC, insists he is focused solely on taking his Everton outfit back into Europe, and is using Euro 2012 as a scouting mission in order to do so.
He said: “There has been no contact from Spurs. I’m the Everton manager. I’m out here having a look at players and trying to get on with being Everton manager.
“Behind the scenes me and Bill (Kenwright) are trying to get things moving along.”
Up until 2010, the blue half of Merseyside were enjoying a prolonged stint of European football and the 49 year-old remains convinced that his team do not need to spend vast amounts to make a return.
Moyes, speaking on talkSPORT, added: “A club like Everton need European football. It would be a dream to get back into the Champions League but if it was the Europa League we’d take it.
“At Everton we could make a difference with not too much money. I don’t think we necessarily need £40-50 million to spend.
“Myself and Bill would love it if we could really have a go and catch some of the clubs above us.”
Moyes has also admitted he would be interested in a groundshare with fierce rivals Liverpool, but admits the chances of it happening are unlikely.
He claimed: “We know we could with some more cash and we would like a new stadium but we have an awful lot of things going for us.
“I think Everton probably need a new stadium more than Liverpool but it is not something we have in our culture because we don’t share grounds. We’d take it but I don’t think Liverpool would.”
