Everton manager David Moyes has revealed he may be forced into the transfer market during the January window against his will.

The Toffees boss is not keen on adding fresh faces halfway through the season, but a spate of defensive injuries already this season and the loss of key midfielder Tim Cahill to knee ligament damage could force his hand.

"It will be difficult to get players in to improve the side and January's not the best time for shopping, but we might still need to do something," said Moyes.

"We are short of numbers. We were short before we started the season and, strangely enough, we don't have that many injuries.

"We are not a club with nine or ten injured players, so we're actually just short of numbers in general."
