Everton manager David Moyes branded Marouane Fellaini 'stupid' after the midfielder was sent off during the 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers at Goodison Park.
The Belgium international was red-carded by match referee Phil Dowd four minutes from time for kicking out at Trotters defender Paul Robinson, following a tough challenge from the Bolton man.
Fellaini, 22, was making his first appearance for just over a month after injury and now face a three-match suspension for his indiscretion.
Boss Moyes commented: "It was correct. It could have been a foul on Fellaini by Robinson which might have been a booking.
"But we have no complaints. It was retaliation and a sending-off. Marouane should not have done that, it was stupid."
