Moyes hails 'terrific' Hibbert
02 Oct 2009 - 08:11:22
Tony Hibbert was picked out by Everton manager David Moyes for special praise after the Toffees came from behind to beat FC BATE Borisov 2-1 on Thursday.
Moyes was forced to start without nine first-team regulars in Belarus while Joseph Yobo was also forced to pull out with a thigh strain.
As a result Hibbert was forced to play in central defence and helped his side remain in control of Group I following their 4-0 win against AEK Athens a fortnight ago.
"I thought Tony epitomised everything about Everton Football Club tonight," said a delighted Moyes.
"He never complained even though he was playing at centre-back in a position unfamiliar to him.
"He did terrific and we came away with a great result. Dan Gosling too came in at right-back and did well.
"We were missing a few senior players tonight and it's great credit to the ones who've come and got the result.
"It was probably coming from behind which pleased me as much as anything. We went a goal down but I actually thought we played better in the first half. We managed the conditions but were wasteful with a few chances.
"They scored an amazing goal and we were chasing the game but I thought we did okay."
