Moyes ditches Lescott
19 Aug 2009 - 16:41:17
Everton manager David Moyes has dropped Joleon Lescott from his squad for their Europa League play-off clash with Sigma Olomouc on Thursday.
The want-away defender is believed to have trained alone this week as Moyes bids to avoid any distractions for the rest of his squad, who were walloped 6-1 at home to Arsenal on the opening day of the season.
And the Blues boss admitted he was disappointed with Lescott's attitude as he looks to force through a big-money move to Manchester City.
Moyes told a press conference: "I'm not including Joleon Lescott in the squad. His attitude in the past few days has been very poor and for that reason I won't include him.
"I've always thought he was a good lad. But I think he's not only let himself down, but his team-mates too."
Everton entertain Czech outfit Sigma at Goodison Park on Thursday with Joseph Yobo being the only recognised centre-half in his squad.
