Moyes deflated by derby loss
07 Feb 2010 - 10:36:59
Everton manager David Moyes was left frustrated by his side's narrow 1-0 defeat in the Anfield derby clash with Liverpool.
The Toffees were unable to take advantage of their hosts being reduced to ten men after 34 minutes, finishing the game with ten men themselves when Steven Pienaar was dismissed late on.
Moyes commented: "We didn't play badly and didn't deserve to lose the game, so that is disappointing.
"There were no real problems with the performance. I have told the players we will keep doing it - we just didn't have quite enough at the top end of the pitch.
"It can be more difficult against ten men and I knew if Liverpool got a goal it would be difficult. They were always going to sit back, so it was key for us not to lose a goal.
"We gave away three corners early in the second half and if you do that you can always give away a goal."
Meanwhile, the Toffees are waiting to find out the full extent of an ankle injury which forced Marouane Fellaini out of the game.
An initial x-ray showed up no broken bones, but Fellaini went to hospital for further scans on the problem.
