Moyes admits Arteta concern
23 Feb 2009 - 07:30:31
Everton boss David Moyes has admitted he fears the worst after seeing Mikel Arteta stretchered off during Sunday's goalless draw with Newcastle United.
The Spain international fell to the ground clutching his knee in the opening minutes of the stalemate at St James' Park following a challenge with Magpies striker Peter Lovenkrands.
Arteta was stretchered off amid suggestions that his season could be over with serious knee ligament damage.
"The early look at him wasn't good, but I'd rather wait to see," said Moyes when asked about the extent of the injury.
"We have not got all the news yet, but it is not looking particularly good news at the moment.
"He has gone back to Liverpool for a scan but we will wait until we get the final outcome before we can assess it."
The Toffees boss was also disappointed after his side failed to capitalise on the first-half dismissal of Kevin Nolan following a horror challenge on Victor Anichebe.
The striker limped out of the game on the stroke of half-time after Nolan's two-footed lunge.
"We played for nearly an hour against ten men and created hardly any chances," admitted Moyes.
"A draw's not a bad result, but I think in the circumstances we're disappointed not to take all three and bitterly disappointed because of the injury to Mikel."
