Moyes: We couldn't afford Bellamy

Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed the club had a genuine interest in signing Wales international Craig Bellamy.[LNB] The 31-year-old striker left Manchester City this summer in search of first-team football after missing out on manager Roberto Mancini's 25-man squad.[LNB]The host of Premier League clubs were tracking the former West Ham, Liverpool and Blackburn ace, but it was Championship side Cardiff City who eventually landed his signature.[LNB]Moyes was keen to bolster his attacking options this summer despite Jermaine Beckford's arrival from Leeds, but the Scottish tactician says the deal to sign Bellamy was too costly for the club.[LNB]"If we had big, big money we would have tried to buy a top-class forward, but we've had to go down other routes," said Moyes.[LNB]"How close did we come [to signing Bellamy]? We had a genuine interest.[LNB]"We just couldn't afford the whole thing."
