Moyes - We are on course

David Moyes believes his Everton side are on course for what he aimed to achieve at the beginning his tenure seven years ago. The Toffees manager has been given time to mould his team and with the club set to claim their fourth top-six finish in five years that decision has been justified. But things have not always been so rosy at Goodison Park under the Scot. After guiding the club to seventh place in his first full season Moyes saw his side narrowly escape the drop the season after. Chairman Bill Kenwright stuck by his man and with an FA Cup final against Chelsea to look forward to at the end of the month the Toffees have a chance to get their hands on some silverware for the first time in 14 years. "We are probably doing what I hoped we would do, but I have been here seven years now," Moyes said. Stabilise "A lot of managers don't get that opportunity to do seven years. If more got the opportunity, then they could stabilise their football club and set down some good foundations. "I have been really lucky from that side. But I do understand you need to win games as well along the road to give yourself a chance." Everton leapfrogged Aston Villa to go fifth after their 2-0 success at Sunderland on Sunday and Moyes now has the job of rousing his players to finish the season in style with FA Cup final places up for grabs. "They have to because the league is the bread and butter, it always will be," he added. "What we have got is a bit of icing on the cake at the end of the month with the final. "But I want us to do well in the games leading up to it so we can go into it with some momentum and playing well."
