Moyes targets fifth place

Everton manager David Moyes insists his side are determined to finish in fifth place after moving above Aston Villa with victory over Sunderland on Sunday. It took them 48 minutes to force their way in front, Steven Pienaar stabbing home from close range after running on to Jo's fine pass, and there was never any danger of them surrendering their advantage. Sunderland did rally fleetingly, but their hopes were killed off with 19 minutes remaining when Pienaar, scarcely able to believe the space he was afforded by the retreating Calum Davenport, squared for Marouane Fellaini to fire home the second. The Toffees have an FA Cup final with Chelsea at the end of the month but Moyes insists the immediate focus is on trying to keep ahead of Aston Villa, who play Hull on Monday. "We are in Europe anyway through the FA Cup, but what we have got to be sure is we don't get caught by one of the clubs behind," said Moyes. "We will try to stay ahead of Aston Villa now, but they have done well all season. It will be tough to do that but nevertheless, if we finish fifth or sixth, that will constitute a good season for Everton."
