Moyes relieved with victory

David Moyes gave credit to Fulham boss Roy Hodgson after Everton came away from Craven Cottage with a 2-0 victory. The home side still managed to clinch seventh place in the Premier League and will play in the new-look Europa League next season, which replaces the Uefa Cup. Moyes was relieved that his side managed to secure an away victory over Fulham for the first time in 43 years. "This has always been a hard place for Everton, I think it's 1966 since we've won here so thank goodness for that," he told Sky Sports after the match. "I think you've got to give credit to Fulham and how well they've done this season (with) Roy Hodgson. "Their manager (has had) an unbelievable year and I think the Fulham players have had a great season so it was always going to be a hard game." Fifth place Everton's win ensured that they stayed above Aston Villa in the Premier League table and finished as 'best of the rest' in fifth place, with the FA Cup final against Chelsea still to come. This is despite the Toffees gaining only two victories from their first nine games of the season, after which Moyes admits that he had mixed thoughts about his side's potential. "When we took the squad away to America in pre-season I thought to myself: 'We've got no numbers, we've got no players'. "I think if you look at our opening month of the season or so you could see that by the teams we were playing and what we were trying to do. "But in a way I expected the players to finish here because they're good players and at that time we weren't performing as well as we could do."
