Moyes - League is paramount

Everton manager David Moyes has reiterated his belief that finishing inside the top six in the Premier League is more important than silverware. The Toffees face Middlesbrough in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the weekend, but Moyes insists his focus is ensuring the club secure European football via their league placing. While Moyes acknowledges winning silverware is what every club ultimately dreams of, he believes finishing as high up the Premier League ladder as possible is a better way of gaining consistency. Although Everton have gone 14 years without landing a major trophy, after winning the FA Cup back in 1995, securing a top-six finish is still something to be proud of. "What I've been saying for a while, that I think that the Premier League; finishing high up; getting a European competition is really important," he told Sky Sports. "It would certainly be important for Everton. I don't know what other people have been saying, but for me it is. But then everyone wants to see you win a bit of silverware, because that's something to show for it. "That's not something we've been able to do, but I've always thought that the sign of a good team is consistency in the league. Do you win your games? Where do you finish in the league season? "You can have a draw in the Cup that gets you through quite easily, but it doesn't really show your true form or how you've done throughout the whole season. "I think that getting a top-six finish is really important."
