Moyes keen to spend Lescott cash

David Moyes admits time is against Everton as he looks to bring in a replacement for Manchester City bound defender Joleon Lescott. City's protracted pursuit of Lescott is close to a conclusion after the two clubs agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £24million, on Sunday. Lescott will undergo a medical and discuss personal terms on Monday before finalising his exit from Everton, who have lost their opening two games in the Premier League. Moyes has been linked with Newcastle's Steven Taylor and Stoke's Ryan Shawcross as he considers possible replacements for Lescott at Goodison Park. However, with the transfer window closing on Tuesday 1st September, Moyes concedes he may have to pay over the odds for new signings with time running out. Expensive "It definitely needs freshening up," said Moyes. "We will try to do that and make a go of it this week. "We shouldn't have been asked to wait this length of time for an amount of cash we think was the correct value for the player. "Real Madrid came in with the money (£80million for Cristiano Ronaldo) for Manchester United the week after the end of the season. "If the money had been offered in June it would have been a lot easier for us. "The time is against us (to find a replacement). You can always spend money if you pay the right prices. The hard part is it will be expensive."
