Moyes - Follow our example

David Moyes believes Everton have shown how to mount a challenge for UEFA Champions League qualification.[LNB] The Toffees have been consistently impressive over the last few seasons and are once again pushing for a place in Europe, although they trail Arsenal and Aston Villa in the race for fourth spot.[LNB]Everton face Portsmouth in the Premier League on Saturday, with the South Coast club looking to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.[LNB]Pompey have spent heavily in recent campaigns and lifted the FA Cup last term, but Moyes believes their current plight demonstrates how important it is to take a more careful approach.[LNB]He said: "Everton, rather than Portsmouth, are an example to others as to how to challenge the top four and how to cope with having less funds than some of the clubs above us in the league.[LNB]"Portsmouth spent to win the FA Cup and to be in a position to have a go at the top end of the table. But now they are having to cut back because they cannot sustain that."[LNB]Moyes feels the fighting spirit of his players enables Everton to compete with the best sides in the division, but he is expecting a tough test against a Portsmouth outfit showing signs of improvement under Paul Hart.[LNB]Moyes explained: "Pompey's boss Paul Hart is doing all he can to get them away from the bottom end of the table and I think he will succeed. Most of the players who got them to last season's final are still there. Not too much has changed.[LNB]"We would like to spend a bit more to get closer to the top, and this club give me what they can but things are tight.[LNB]"But my players have shown the spirit and quality needed to sustain a challenge, and I must give them the credit for that. If I could add one or two new players in the summer to help them, that would be fine."[LNB]
